About Hidden Gems

A hidden gem here is a street that grades B+ or better in our data and that almost nobody on the site has voted on. Roughly six hundred streets meet both conditions at any given week. They cluster in two places: quiet blocks a few doors off a well-known corridor, and outer-borough grids that happen to sit close to a train. The reason they stay unrated is usually that they have no reputation to argue about, which is exactly what makes them useful to an apartment hunter. A B+ puts a street in the top 11% of the city on complaints per resident and on what it reaches on foot, whether or not anyone has heard of it. Voting on the site is still young, so treat a low vote count as an absence of opinion rather than as evidence of anything.
