Queens is the hardest borough to summarise in one number, and its average, 47, is the lowest in the city alongside the Bronx's. Two columns explain most of that. Its transit readings are the weakest of the five boroughs, tied with Staten Island's, which costs it heavily because roughly a third of the score is what a street reaches on foot. And it posts the worst traffic-safety average in the city, built from crash injuries and deaths per resident. Against that, Queens holds the best cleanliness average of the five boroughs and the second-best quietness average. The borough's high scores are concentrated in the west, in the old Long Island City grid, where the trains are; the failing end is out east and along the airport edges, where more than 120 streets grade F, the largest such population in the city.
